The fish are snapping just about anywhere through the central/north central part of Minnesota! Walleyes, Pike, Crappies, bluegills and even the bass are trying to get through the hole into your bucket! So far the best depths are 2 fold—shallow or deep. The best bites are found in the 6-12 dt range—in the weeds. Pike, Bass, crappies and the bluegills are chowing down in shallow “summer time” weed beds. Dead stick rigs or tip ups are bagging pike, bass, and walleyes, while tiny jigs or spoons are whacking the jumbo bluegills and the crappies—all day long—no need to fish in the dark.
The deeper weed edge is also holding fish. Weed lines that end in the 15-20′ range are holding more walleyes than anything. You will also find nice sized pike mixed in with the walleyes. Jigging spoons, Jigging Raps, or glide baits like the Berkely Snap jig tipped with a full sized minnow will get the job done. Lotsa Fish! Lotsa Fun!
