The shallow weed bite continues. Crappies and bluegills continue to be active in shoreline related weed beds in the 6-12′ depth range. 1/16-1/32 oz jigging spoons like the VMC Flash Champ, Jb Lures Big Bad Bo, or a Northland Forage Minnow will get the bigger fish onto the ice! Tip the spoon with a wax worm or a spike. And since the panfish are still using the shallow weeds—so are the pike. Tip-ups tipped with a sucker minnow or approved dead bait set about 3 ft off of the bottom will put some tasty pike topside.
As of 2-25-2023, the pike and walleye season has come to an end on most Minnesota Inland lakes—so check the regulations going forward when headed out fishing! Lotsa Fish! Lotsa Fun!
