Things have been good on the ice fishing front! Bluegills have been the target the past couple weeks and there have been no shortage on hooksets. Main depths we have been targeting have been from 5 to 15ft just outside of the small bays and if there is a good weed bed in the bay that has also been producing. The Pinhead Pro by Clam Pro Tackle has been the hot bait, and if you follow my reports you will find that spoon is my go to and something I will use most of the season. The mornings have been phenomenal with the afternoons being tougher but still catchable.
The 1/32 Pinhead Pro in fathead color have produced well and when things get a hair tougher I re approach with a 3 mm Clam Drop jig preferably in black with whit dots either tipped with a maki poli in motor oil or a wax worm.
We are finding ice conditions to be shaping up well with most smaller lakes now having 3 to 5” of ice and some of the bigger lakes but not many. some also have less in areas so be cautious. Do not assume and check for yourself. Bring a spud bar, rope, ice picks, float suit or a life jacket to be safe and check the ice as you go. And don’t forget a Buddy!!
