Fishing on Cass had been good during a recent cold front when temps dropped, and walleye got more active, but with this recent warming trend, they’ve gotten a little more challenging again. The good news is that the lake is FULL of fish right now, and finding success is all about finding the most active schools. That means fishing many locations and putting your presentation in front of as many fish as possible to locate active feeders. You’ll also be able to catch more fish by rifling through presentations. Start with a bobber and leech and switch to using a crawler under the bobber if they don’t respond to the leech. Next, float a jig and live bait over their heads if they want something moving more. When all else fails, try using a glide bait like the Northland Pitchin’ Puppet minnow to force them into eating with a reaction bite. As far as location is concerned, many of the most catchable fish are in the weeds. Use your lake map to find the big flats next to deep water and narrow your search from there looking for weed growth. The fish will be in the weeds as well as the inside and outside edges.
