Big Sandy Lake, MN (August 23, 2024)

Water Temp 73

Smallmouth Bass:

Find smallmouth on shallow humps that top out at 6-10ft. Humps with broken rock and weeds are what to look for. A small 3-inch paddle tail swimbait has been good rigged with a 1/8 ounce jig head slow roll high in the water column and keep it up.

Crappies:

Crappies can be found in 8-14ft off secondary breaks. The trick is finding irregularities like a sunken log or sunken man-made structure. Find these structures by driving with side imaging. The same small paddle tail swimbait 1/8 ounce jig combo used for smallmouth works well as they prefer a bigger profile.

Walleye:

August walleye have been a little fickle, but they are still catchable trolling X-Tackle Spinbeads tipped with a minnow in 6-8ft sand/rock transitions at 1.5mph. The higher speed has been triggering reaction bites from the stubborn fish. Use a 3/16-ounce bullet weight in this depth.
