Bemidji Area, MN (July 17, 2024)

It’s that time of year in the Bemidji area. Tourism is at its peak, and the fishermen are out in full force!

Walleye anglers are happy to see that the mayfly hatches are done, and the algae has bloomed. That makes chasing walleyes in clear waters much easier, even on sunny days. Fish can be found all over… In shallow with cranks, off the humps with bouncers and spinners, or bobber fishing or j-rapping suspended fish over deeper water. You can literally pick your poison right now and have some luck!

Panfish are in full summer swing. Big bluegills can be found in the deeper cabbage with a bobber setup or casting jigs or beetle spins. Crappies can be found mixed in, especially at night.

Muskie anglers are having a ton of luck. Lots of big fish popping up on social media. Unfortunately, I’ve been too busy with walleye guests to chase the apex predators this summer.

Bass are also in their summer patterns. With water temps around 80 degrees, look to deep weeds or rocks. Wind-blown shorelines and points can be great with a jig-worm. In the mornings, docks and lilypads are great for some topwater or precision flipping action.

It’s that time of year, where everything seems to be biting, and the weather is beautiful. Get out and enjoy it!
