Tournament pro and South Dakota guide, Jarrod Fredericks, covers how he targets walleye in the fall. Jarrod explains that this time of the year walleyes move up from deep breaks into the shallows. This is not just in the mornings, but you can find them shallow all day long come mid-fall.
Casting shallow shad raps or swimbaits in 4-5 feet of water is a great way to target these fish. Walleyes that move up shallow this time of the year follow baitfish and, come first ice, these areas will continue to hold these fish. Jarrod will typically start his early ice season by targeting these same shallow water weed areas where he continues to find walleye all day long.
