Spring walleye fishing on river systems can be complicated by a number of factors, but especially by prevailing weather conditions. Late spring snow storms can cause huge dips in water temperature that can really shut the bite down.

When the bite gets tough, NWT Pro Max Wilson targets shallow flats in the afternoon. As the sun rises higher, these areas warm up more quickly and the fish will start to get slightly more aggressive. For his presentation, Wilson goes with a trusted jig and minnow but switches out a large lead profile for smaller, lightweight tungsten such as an eighth ounce Clam TG jig. To really increase your catch rate on these tough bite days, Wilson also recommends using a stinger hook since these finicky fish are often short biting the tail.
