This week brings us to Lake Winnipeg Manitoba where we chased greenback walleye. We called ahead and locked in rooms at South Beach Casino just off the lake and accessed the Pruden Landing. We purchased our fishing license online and printed them off prior to leaving. New rules do not allow for transportation or any frozen minnows across the border. We were able to purchase bait at the gas station across from South Beach Casino.
Fish are scattered across the basin. We focused on getting away from the groups and found good fish in 15-18 FOW about 4-6 miles off shore. Best bite window seemed to be early morning at sunrise with fish biting throughout the day. If you don’t see fish swimming in your area after 30 minutes it usually meant time to move.
Catching 20-30 fish a day is common. Colors such as blue, pink, chrome (combinations) worked best for us. Downsizing to the 1/4oz Blue/Pink PK Rattle Spoon tipped with a walleye eyeball outperformed all other lures we tried.
